Tēnā koutou

A drop in temperatures the past week is a reminder that change is constant – seasons come and they go, whether we are ready or not!

Which brings us to last week, when we bid farewell to one of Te Kotahi’s biggest champions, Ngāti Kuia general manager Dave Johnston, who stepped down from his role last month. Dave served as co-chair of Kotahi o Te Tauihu Trust until the end of last year and has played a pivotal role in iwi affairs in Te Tauihu in recent years. I valued Dave and his input because he was inclusive, you trusted him and he encouraged iwi and Māori development every step of the way. His ability to truly connect with people is proven in his wide networks. We thank Dave for his leadership and know he will continue to support Kotahi o Te Tauihu Trust – and all Te Tauihu iwi – from the sidelines.

As we say goodbye to Dave, the winds of change also bring two new members to the Trust board: Darren King, who is the newly appointed General Manager of Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trust, and Turi Hippolite, who recently took up the General Manager role at Ngāti Koata Trust. It is always exciting to have fresh energy and perspective and we look forward to working alongside Darren and Turi.

With a break coming up for some of us, I’m mindful it’s not all of us. If you do get a break, enjoy your time with whānau. Treasure those daylight hours while you can.

Ngā manaakitanga
